Graduate Seminar A on TESOL Research Methodology 2010

Objectives: to help graduate students develop the ability to plan and implement a research project, more specifically:
  a) to ask the right kind of research questions,
  b) develop an appropriate and feasible research design, and
  c) actually carry it out

Requirements:
  a) write and rewrite research a proposal about the selected topics
  b) contribute to classroom discussion
   (active participation is always encouraged and highly valued)

Time: Friday 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Room: Reference Room (in the English Department Library, Humanities Building #3, 3rd FL.)

Warm Up

 今年も研究方法と取り組む時期がやってきました。
まずは、頭の体操を始めるためのウォーミングアップ。自分の頭でよく考えることを始めるために次のような課題を設定しました。
English is used by many people as a common language.という文があります。これを高校1年生にDictation(文を区切らず二回聞かせてから書く)させたら次のような解答が出てきました。
1. English is used by many people as a common language.
2. English is spoken by many people as a common language.
3. English is used by
4. people as a common language
5. English used many people common language
以上の解答の配点を考え(10点満点)、その理由を考えて下さい。そのうえで、自分の理論を支えるための証拠を研究から得るとしたら、どんな研究をしてどのような証拠を導き出すか、研究の概要を書いて下さい。
