WaSIT Water Special Interest Tours Tokyo Gakugei University

Concept

The WaSIT Water Learning Design Project (a water special interest tour for hydrophilic land use and environmental education at watersheds in the Tokyo area) was first launched in the spring of 2016 with support from the The Coca-Cola Foundation. WaSIT stands for Water Special Interest Tours. Special interest tours are thematically based, purposeful tours that highlight specific interests. Rather than going around to the typical sightseeing spots, SITs are packaged tours offering an extensive variety of destinations based on individual or group interests, such as cultural appreciation, animals, or health. In some cases, SIT packages include a series of tours that together function as a single academic program. This project uses SITs to new hydrophilic activities and design spaces for environmental education within Tokyo-area watersheds, based on proposals from university students. It is hoped that the activities will provide both students and the general public with the awareness and knowledge they need to participate in various hydrophilic endeavors.
This project involves planning, experiencing, and reporting on an original Water Special Interest tour with a water theme. University students put together an original water area tour based on their own perspectives, and then go on the tour in search of the learning opportunities offered by the locations or routes that they discover. One of the critical aspects of the project is taking difficult-to-grasp water phenomena or activities and expressing them clearly in order to communicate the wonders of water areas to others. An additional goal of the project is to have students design original learning materials. Once they have experienced the tour, students think about the potential value of the places involved and any associated learning opportunities, then work with a group to create maps, short films, or other study aids.

Project logo

Our logo was inspired by the shape of the Chinese caracter for water, witten "水".The lines spreading out in all directions represent flowing ricers,as well as the links that bind people to nature, people to towns, and piople to one another.Meanwhile,th secen water-like circles symbolize the creation of abundance and regional diversity as well as the design mindset of the university students who grow as a result of their interaction with learning spaces.in terms of color,WaSIT blue represents water as a learning resource, while WaSIT yellow represents prosperity and fun as light. The logo serves as a unifying force for all of the people invlved in the WaSIT project, and was designed to help communicate the significance and rich possibilities of these activities far and wide.
