We have developed a demonstration-lesson-resembled movie distribution system, and named it “21CoDOMoS” after the initials of “21st century COmpetency Development Online MOving-image Service.” The system: (1) shows not only how a teacher acted, but how students acted, by providing the visuals of the teacher, students, and the whole classroom at the same time; (2) delivers commentary by a teacher who teaches the lesson in order to clarify the intention of the lesson, (3) enables discussion with many observers by writing and reading comments on the lesson.
In the society of 2030, aging, globalization, and computerization will have further progressed. Each person must have the quality and ability to collaborate and then solve various problems that occur not only in Japan but also at a global level. To respond to that necessity, an educational system must be envisioned that not only fosters the development of cross-subject skills to acquire specialized knowledge and solve problems, but which also supports the development of character such as curiosity, endurance, ethics, and leadership, which is important to build proper relations with others and society. This research project has been in place to develop new educational and evaluation models in collaboration with the OECD, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and The University of Tokyo.
The project comprises three departments. Department 1 proposes 21st century teaching models by recording classroom practices on video and by analyzing them from a perspective of the development of skills and character. Department 2 proposes evaluation models for the development of generic qualities and abilities through evaluation using rubrics based on performance-based tasks and through the investigation and model design of learning assessment. Department 3 proposes evaluation models for the development of character traits in extracurricular activities through examination of investigative and evaluation methods for developmental possibilities of character traits in extracurricular activities, such as “Moral Education” and "Special Activities."
