TOWN SURVEY with Univ. of Hawaii

Hawaiian students meet Japanese tradition in Ouda
During 25-26th, 28 people from University of Hawaii and three domestic universities in Tokyo area surveyed the condition of old people's welfare in Ouda. Ouda has many historic buildings built in 18-19c.

Prof. Spencer LEINWEBER(Univ. Of Hawaii) proposed joint researches to Prof. Masaru MAENO(Tokyo Nat'l Univ. of Fine Arts&Music) through Japanese Cultural Agency, and these were started.

They try to draft a design for elderly people's welfare facilities both in Ouda and Ewa (Oahu HAWAII). Through the research they study the difference between Ouda and Ewa, and find the best way of design for each region. Finally they will apply to UN competition in later December with these results.

On 25th they made research of old people's life style and some welfare facilities. On 26th they surveyed the sites. They will also visit Ewa in early December. Since later 19c, sugar plantation had been developed in Ewa. Now this is abandoned and they are suffering from depopulation.

Spencer LEINWEBER expects this visit to be a great stimulus to her students for obtaining good results.
