Team for Fostering Student Competencies Overview
The Fostering Team provides necessary information for instructors to foster competencies in elementary and junior high school subject lessons.
Instructors wishing to implement lessons that foster competencies will most likely ask the following three questions:
- “How have instructors fostered competencies through their lessons in the past?”
- “What kind of tedate strategies (including lesson plan, preparation, questions, and activities) have instructors used in their lessons?”
- “How should we assess competencies?”
To answer question 1, we are currently building a Curriculum Map for Competency Development (CMCD) which is a database that allows users to search for lesson information by entering the school subject, competency construct, and school year as search keys. By allowing users to retrieve valuable information, this database will facilitate curriculum management and allow users to create a curriculum map.
To answer question 2, we are preparing a variety of information on tedate strategies. For example, we have created tedate videos that demonstrate what instructors need and how they can plan their lessons to foster the competency constructs “critical thinking” and “curiosity and inquisitive mind”. Moreover, our tedate videos are created from a cross-subject/interdisciplinary perspective so instructors from any subject can apply our tedate strategies in their lessons.
